Definitions, Sources and Caveats:
Sources: 2000 CENSUS and other Census Bureau programs as indicated.
Note that the 2006 data is from the Census' "American Community Survey". The ACS is based on a sample, and the Census Bureau's studies have found that the ACS is a reliable substitute for the long form of the Census. Small differences may reflect random fluctuations, and of course there will be different types of errors in this process, but the Census Bureau reports that they find their ACS statistics to be reliable. In preparing this Allen County web site, however, CRI finds that there are a number of cases in which we would advice caution in interpreting the data. That is, perhaps it would be more prudent to look at the trend and not a single year's data point. Also, the grandparent data is still subject to a large degree of uncertainty and has a large margin of error.
