COMMENTS: In 2005, Allen County ranked 25th in the State in the rate of bankruptcy filings (out of 92 counties). Madison County was first with a rate of 17.66, Fayette County was second with a rate of 17.52, and Marion County was third. (St. Joseph County was 30th.) Indiana ranked number 1 in the nation in the rate per 1,000 people in 2005. Indiana has ranked in the top ten of all 50 states plus the District of Columbia in the number of all filings per resident since 1997; and was ranked 4th in 2004.
